Ch-ch-changes: The world lost a great artist this week with the passing of Don Vliet AKA Captain Beefheart -- Here's the entry on my own personal blog. That "friend in California" was Matthew Child. I will always remember Henk Targowski playing Clear Spot in Amsterdam while we were setting up the first Festival of Fools!

"Miss Christine" of the GTOs invites us in for another listen to Willie the Pimp with Captain Beefheart, Don "Sugarcane" Harris, Ian Underwood, and others. Matthew and I listened to this thing a lot -- in fact, I'm listening to it as I compose this blog!

Coffee is an improvised show about people watching. The audience discovers a coffee bar frequented by a myriad of characters. Every character is created from a face drawn by an audience member before the show. A director guides the show and pulls characters out of the coffee bar to discover more about them and their personal story. Coffee is an original Improfessionals format created by Mark Jane. "It's a taste, an odour, a culture, a philosophy, a way of life, a feeling... but above all, it's people like you and me."

That's the Spirit -- Traditions Recreated!

"The Players" performing Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas in pantomime.

Woody Whitney -- violin, Gary McDonough -- narration, and Patsy Droubay -- ALL the characters. They've performed this show during the Holiday Season for thirty years in the Salt Lake County Library system, and various schools. In fact there's a production going on as I write this!

I remember the winter of 2nd Grade when Grinch was brand-new (1957). Time has been good to this book!

In other news, Johnny Melville FINALLY got on a plane to South America!

John Towsen has a new chapter in All Fall Down: The Craft and Art of Physical Comedy. He tells about the legacy of Max Linder -- the first major comic acting star of Cinema. There will be further information in upcoming episodes.
